Picasso Head

This is the Picasso Head I made...called Simplicity. It reflects on who I am as a person. Although I can be outgoing and sociable, I love the simple things in life that is what makes me happy!

Who I am As A Teacher...

One of my professors once told me, that when you're teaching it is your stage and all of your students are your main audience. I believe this to be so true because as a teacher you are expected to be on 24/7 and it is important to keep your students intrigued so that they will be eager to learn more. And most importantly, learning should be fun, which take each moment and make it its own lesson.

An Alternative View on Education

I watched this about a month ago and I was immediately intrigued because this young man relayed his view on education through spoken word. And he proved that there is no one view or method of learning, an individual can be educated in different ways.

Getting to Know Me...

My name is Janee Leach. I am from Manhattan, NY. I previously attended the University of Hartford, where I was apart of the Secondary Mathematics Education Program and then the Elementary Education Program. I transferred to Hofstra University for my third year and I was accepted into the Dual Early Childhood and Elementary Education Program with Psychology as a co-major. In the future, I would like to teach either 2nd grade or 3rd grade. After I teach for a few years, I would like to become a school guidance counselor for the elementary level or the secondary level. Throughout my life, education was encouraged and heavily valued in my household, which provided me with a love for learning at a very young age. I knew that I wanted to become a teacher since elementary school and I knew that it would be my way of giving back to my community. In my opinion, I believe that knowledge and learning can be acquired in various ways using different methods. Children learn at different paces and as a future teacher it is my duty to provide support to my students so that they will be able to learn at their highest potential. Most educational institutions and various educators portray the concept of learning by administering numerous tests or showing children only one way to process and maintain information (through memorization). In actuality, there is no single way to learn it is about how the student processes information and the methods that best work for them. This is important when it comes to facilitating activities because it is important to adhere to all the children's needs. My activities will have different features because I want my students to use their strengths and also build up their weaknesses. As a teacher, I should not only be a facilitator but also be the students partner in the learning process. Education is about discovery and having an open mind for more knowledge.
